Available for purchase at any General Ticketing Machine (GTM) at MRT/LRT stations, the Standard Ticket is a travel card for MRT/LRT rides only. It can be used up to six times within 30 days from the date of purchase.
You can choose to buy a ‘Single Trip’ or a ‘Return Trip’ on the Standard Ticket. A maximum of two trips can be bought on the card at a time, and trips bought on the Standard Ticket are only valid for use on the date of purchase. Return trips must be made on the same day. Standard Ticket users can get a refund for any unused trips within three days from the date of purchase at the Passenger Service Centre in any MRT station.
The cost of a Standard Ticket includes a deposit of 10 cents, which will be automatically returned through an offset against your fare on the third trip to encourage you to reuse the ticket. As a further incentive and to minimise wastage of the standard ticket, a discount of 10 cents will be given for the sixth trip.
Example of how the Standard Ticket works:
If the fare for the first trip is $1, you pay $1.10. This comprises the $1 travel fare and the 10-cents deposit.
You pay the amount as per the travel fare for the second trip.
If the fare is $1, you only pay 90 cents. The deposit of 10 cents will be automatically returned through off-setting against your fare on the third trip.
You pay the amount as per the travel fare for the fourth trip.
You pay the amount as per the travel fare for the fifth trip.
If the fare for the sixth trip is $1, you will pay 90 cents due to the 10 cents discount given for the sixth trip.
The Standard Ticket provides the flexibility of paying only for a single trip or return trip, and the majority of its users are tourists who stay in Singapore for about a week. They may not be keen to purchase a stored value travel card or the Singapore Tourist Pass, because they are likely to make limited public transport trips.
There are also commuters who own a stored value travel card and buy a Standard Ticket when they forget to bring their card, or only travel on trains occasionally and thus prefer to use a Standard Ticket.
The return trip is to provide convenience for you if you plan to travel back to the original station. Hence, you are unable to select different stations for the return trip at the General Ticketing Machine.
If you purchased the return trip but decide not to return to the original station, you can do a fare adjustment at the Passenger Service Centre. If the fare paid is lesser than the value of the return trip, you will have to top up the fare difference before exiting the station. If the fare paid is more than the value of the return trip, there will be no refund of the price difference.
Yes, he will be able to exit at Orchard MRT station, provided the value of the purchased trip is sufficient to cover the journey. Otherwise, he will have to approach the Passenger Service Centre to top up the fare difference before exiting.
You can keep the Standard Ticket as a souvenir after your trip(s), but are reminded to get a refund for any unused trips within three days from the date of purchase at the Passenger Service Centre in any MRT station.
The cost of the Standard Ticket and operating the scheme is more than 10 cents. Therefore, the Public Transport Operators do not gain from the 10 cents deposit if it is not refunded with a third trip.
Trips purchased on the Standard Ticket are only valid for one day. Thus, you should have sufficient time to get a refund for any unused trips within the three-day grace period.
As Standard Tickets are not personalised, the travel value of the stolen or lost ticket will not be refunded.
